REGULAR MEETING

February 11, 1935

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Woodford at 7:30 P.M. with the following members present: Messrs. Frear, LeFevre, Keith, Burton, Hinkle, Millman and Clark.

NEW MEMBERS SWORN IN

The following members of Council were sworn in by Herman C. Taylor, Notary Public: For Mayor, J. Wallace Woodford, term to expire in one year; Councilmen Grover C. Frear, 3rd District; W.M. Hinkle, 4th District; Curtis F. Millman, 2nd District, terms to expire in two years.

Upon motion of Messrs. Hinkle and Keith, Councilman Grover C. Grear was unanimously elected as Vice-Mayor for the ensuing year.

Upon motion of Messrs. LeFevre and Millman, the following officers were elected to serve during the ensuing year: Joseph O. Willis, City Clerk; C. Burton Sypherd, City Treasurer; Melvin Hopkins, City Solicitor; and W.D. Burton, Alderman.

MINUTES

Upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Burton, the reading of the minutes of the last regular meeting was dispensed with.

CITY MANAGER’S REPORT

In the absence of City Manager Shank this report was held over until next meeting.

ALDERMAN’S REPORT

The Alderman’s report for the month of January and fines collected amounted to $56 with 11 arrests, check for same being turned over to the City Manager. This report was accepted as read by the Clerk and ordered filed upon motion of Messrs. Keith and LeFevre.

POLICE REPORT

The report of the Chief of Police was accepted as read by the Clerk upon motion of Messrs. Burton and Millman.

FINANCIAL REPORT

The financial report for the month of January was accepted as read by the Clerk upon motion of Messrs. Burton and Hinkle.

SOLICITOR’S REPORT

The annual report of the City Solicitor was accepted as read by the Clerk and ordered filed upon motion of Messrs. Burton and Hinkle.

COMMITTEE

Senator William Matthews appeared before Council on behalf of the David C. Harrison Post of the American Legion of Smyrna explaining that they were compelled to purchase a new ambulance and asking if the City would make a donation toward same. Upon motion of Messrs. LeFevre and Burton, City Council donated $100 to this service.

ADJOURNMENT

Council adjourned at 8:30 P.M.
