COUNCIL RETREAT
Members of Council met on December 18, 2001 at 8:30 a.m. in a Retreat Session with Mr. DePrima, City Manager, serving as Facilitator. Members present were Mr. McGlumphy, Mr. Ritter, Mr. Pitts, Mr. Gorman, Mr. Truitt, Mr. Speed (arrived at 8:45 a.m.), Mr. Salters, and Mr. Ruane. Mr. Carey was absent. Mayor Hutchison, Mrs. Mitchell, Mr. Cooper, Mr. Petit de Mange, and Mrs. Green were also present.
Review of Survey Results (Retreat Sessions held on November 26th and 27th)
Mr. DePrima reminded members that surveys were distributed for ranking the goals and objectives developed from the Retreat Sessions held on November 26th and 27th. Members were provided the survey results and a listing that sorted the survey by average, beginning with those ranked the highest. Staff reviewed the list and developed separate lists: 1) Large Projects, consisting of those that would take 6 - 12 months of intensive staff efforts and/or more than $50,000; 2) Medium Projects, consisting of those that would take 2 - 6 months of intensive staff efforts and/or $20,000 to $50,000 estimated costs; and 3) Small Projects, consisting of those that would take less than 2 months of staff efforts and/or less than $20,000 estimated costs. Mr. DePrima noted that there are some projects that are already in progress and that there are a few already complete, which are noted on the lists.
Each member of Council was provided “markers” - 3 for Large Projects, 4 for Medium Projects, and 6 for Small Projects. Each project that received a positive “average” vote from the survey was listed on a large printout, separated by project type (large, medium, small). During this session, members were requested to place their “markers” next to those projects they felt should be given priority and that staff should begin to implement. The results of this prioritizing exercise are attached.
General Discussion on Visions and Goals for the Future
Mr. DePrima advised members that Council staff will meet to review the results of the prioritizing exercise of Council and develop referrals, cost estimates, proposed completion dates, time frames, etc., for those highest ranked projects selected by a majority of Council. This information should be completed by the end of January 2002 for presentation to members of Council.
Mr. Salters moved for adjournment, seconded by Mr. Pitts and unanimously carried.
Meeting Adjourned at 9:42 A.M.
Respectfully submitted,
William P. McGlumphy
