REGULAR MEETING

November 9, 1953

The regular meeting of City Council was held Monday, November 9, 1953, at 7:30 P.M. with Mayor Haman presiding. Councilmen present were Messrs Biddle, Davis, Helm, Holpp, Petty, Smith and Tischer.

MINUTES

Minutes of the last regular and special meetings were accepted as read.

REPORTS

Report of the City Manager was accepted as read.

Report of the Chief of Police was accepted as read.

Report of the City Alderman was accepted as read. A check in the amount of $1291.30 was remitted to the City.

STREET LIGHT DAMAGE

A group of boys who shot out street lights with air rifles appeared before Council and offered to pay for damage done. Replacement cost is $65.00. Council accepted the offer. Of ten boys involved, nine were present and each immediately paid the City $6.50.

SILVER LAKE

City Manager Ward reported to Council on the progress he has made gathering information of the drainage of Silver Lake. He is awaiting further information from the State Game & Fish Commission.

PARKING METERS

By unanimous vote, Council directed that parking meters shall be inforce until 9 P.M. from December 14 thru December 23 when stores will be open for Christmas shopping. The Chamber of Commerce has agreed to bear the cost of signs to be placed on each meter telling of the change in hours.

NO PARKING SPACE

Dr. Robert J. Fox requested to grant no parking space to himself and Dr. Steel at 42 S. State St. Council informed Dr. Fox that the request had been granted by a previous action.

BUSINESS LICENSES

A committee of Council reported on progress to date in the preparation of a business license ordinance.

BUDGET EXPENDITURE REPORT

Report of budget expenditures thru September 30 and cash receipts thru October 31 was accepted by Council.

CITY MANAGER ANNUAL REPORT

Council accepted the annual report of the City Manager and approved its publication.

POWER PLANT BIDS

The City Manager reported to Council on his plans for awarding a contract for building alterations at the City Power Plant. Council approved the City Manager’s action.

FIRE COMPANY NOMINATIONS

The Robbins Hose Company reported the following nominations to City Council:

            Chief Engineer                       William A. Hayes

            First Assistant             George Hill Jr.

            Second Assistant                    Paul Kertilis

There being only one candidate for each office, no election is necessary.

Council adjourned at 10:15 P.M.
