SPECIAL MEETING
May 25, 1953
The special meeting of City Council was held Monday, May 25, 1953, at 7:30 P.M. with Mayor Haman presiding. Councilmen present were Messrs Biddle, Davis, Helm, Holpp, Mundy, Petty, Smith and Tischer.
EQUIPMENT PURCHASES
Council authorized the City Manager to trade-in the truck crane on a crawler type crane with backhoe and bucket attachments.
Council authorized the City Manager to purchase a portable air compressor with front loader and backhoe attachments.
GENERATOR AND CONDENSER
On the proposal of Mr. Tischer, seconded by Mr. Davis, Council passed the following motion: Considering the fact that Council has rejected all bids on the turbo-generator to be purchased and in further consideration of the knowledge that eh four transformers purchased from Westinghouse must be disposed of in the most advantageous manner, and in view of the fact that the purchase of the new equipment has been narrowed to two sources, I wish tp make the motion that Mr. Ward be authorized to negotiate immediately, a contract with whichever of these two companies that is best qualified to meet our requirement.
LIFE GUARDS
The matter of employing life guards at Silver Lake was referred to the City Manager for disposition as he judges best.
DP&L CONTRACT
The City Solicitor was authorized to prepare with the assistance of Mr. Lewin, Baltimore attorney, a petition to the Federal Power Commission protesting objectionable clauses in the resale power contract between the City of Dover and Delaware Power & Light Company. Mr. Hughes explained that officials of DP&L will be notified of the petition before it is presented to the Federal Power Commission in the hope that acceptable terms can be reached without a formal hearing.
