SPECIAL MEETING

                                                                                                                        February 23, 1948

A special meeting of City Council was convened at 7:30 P.M. on February 23, 1948, with Mayor Willis presiding. Members present were Messrs. Carroll, Culver, Wilson, Wright, Mikell and Carson.

The Campaign Committee of the Kent General Hospital Building Fund requested a donation from the City. Council considered the fact that the City now furnished the hospital, without cost, services which approximated more than $5000 yearly. In view of this contribution and that an increase in like services could be expected, Council voted to table the request.

The matter of regulating busses loading and unloading within the City employees of Latex Corporation was left to the City Manager and Chief of Police for disposition.

Council directed that for a trial period of one month, March, 1948, violators of the parking meter ordinance who appeared to pay their fine at the City Hall or Police Station within one hour of the time the violation was noted, as indicated on the parking tag, would be fined only $.10. Those appearing later than one hour after the tag was affixed would be subject to the fine of $1.00, as now provided in the ordinance.

The City Manager was authorized to prepare temporary signs to enforce the proposed parking regulations for State Street from Loockerman Street to the Green and for North Street from Governors Avenue to Federal Street.

Council adjourned at 8:15 P.M.
