SPECIAL MEETING
August 14, 1947
A conference with Mr. Heinze and Mr. Finsen of International Latex Corporation was held in City Hall on Thursday, August 14, at 2 P.M. Membes present were: Mrs. Frear, Messrs. Keith, Vane, Mikell and Carson.
The question of whether or not International Latex Corporation would go along with the City while the present 2500 turbo-generator was being overhauled was brought up. The answer was emphatically NO. They gave as their reason that during the war the supply of natural rubber was frozen; consequently, the corporation lost a lot of business in trying to supply the trade with synthetic rubber. The corporation has reached a stage now where much of this busines has been regained, and the corporation would not want to lose the good will of the customers by having to shut down at this time. Mr. Heinze stated that they were willing to cooperate with the City in most any reasonable way, since the representatives of the corporation realized that the City lost money on the first contract with them. Mr. Henize stated that they had a quotation for a Diesel installation whereby they could produce their own power at Latex for 1.2cents per K. W., but they did not want to do that. Council asked Mr. Heinze to offer a suggestion. Mr. Heinze stated that he was sure a deal could be made with Delaware Power and Light and offered his assistance in making this deal. If this could not be done, the representatives stated that the corporation was willing to make a small installation of its own which would relieve the City until such time as the City could add to its present plant. Council also asked Mr. Heinze, if Latex was planning to make its own steam. He answered no, but the boilers were being kept for standby in event of a City breakdown.
Without objection, Council decided to see what could be done by having a conference with Delaware Power and Light, and that representatives of the Latex Corporation should be in attendance.
Council adjourned at 3:25 P.M.
