SPECIAL MEETING
December 2, 1946
A special meeting of City Council was held in City Hall on Monday evening, December 2, with Mayor Woodford presiding. The following members were present: Messrs. Downes, Keith, Vane, Burton, Hartnett, Hinkle and Keith.
Street Lighting
A request from the Dover Chamber of Commerce was received from the City to install ornamental lighting on the streets during the Christmas holidays. Upon motion of Mr. Keith, seconded by Mr. Vane, the request was refused due to the lack of coal caused by the coal strike.
Douglas Harris Electric Service
Douglas Harris appeared before Council requesting service for a home which he built on St. Jones River at the end of Pine Street. The City Manager stated that the distance from the end of our present line to his home was 1200 feet, and that it would cost approximately $620.00 to run. Upon motion of Mr. Downes, seconded by Mr. Burton, Mr. Harris was told that the City would pay for one half of the construction and he would be asked to pay for one half. If, at any time, four more homes are constructed which would be served from the same construction, he would be reimbursed for the amount he had paid.
Mrs. Driver Bill
Mrs. Driver presented a bill in the amount of $20.25 covering cost of a new tire. Mrs. Driver claims that faulty construction of the curb at Reed and Bradford Streets caused her to burst a tire while she was making a turn from Bradford into Reed. Upon motion of Mr. Hinkle, seconded by Mr. Keith, the bill was ordered paid.
Flowers – Hopkins Father
Without objection, the City Clerk was authorized to have flowers sent to the funeral of the Father of City Solicitor Hopkins.
Council adjourned at 9:10 P.M.
