REGULAR MEETING
January 8, 1945
The Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Dover was held on the 8th day of January, 1945. The meeting was called to order by Vice Mayor LeFevre, and on roll call the following members answered “Present”: Messrs. Keith, Burton, Hinkle, Vane and Hartnett.
MINUTES
Upon motion of Messrs. Burton and Hinkle, the reading of the minutes of the last Regular and Special meetings was dispensed with.
CITY MANAGER’S REPORT
The City Manager’s Report for the month of December was read by the Clerk and accepted upon motion of Messrs. Burton and Vane.
ALDERMAN’S REPORT
The Alderman’s Report for the month of December was read by the Clerk and accepted upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Hinkle.
A check amounting to $73.95 was turned over to the City manager with the report of 13 Arrests.
POLICE REPORT
The annual and monthly reports of the Chief of Police was read by the Clerk and approved upon motion of Messrs. Burton and Keith.
BILLS
A bill from Dr. W. S. Straughn was presented to the City Council for the damage of his Packard automobile caused by a falling limb from a tree located in front of his home on S. Bradford St. It was stated that there was no wind or storm of any kind that would cause this limb to fall and that apparently it fell because of neglect of the City to remove a dead tree.
Upon the strength of this the City Council voted, upon motion of Messrs. Burton and hartnett, to pay the bill in question which amounted to $138.25
LETTER
A letter from Mr. E. V. Keith, Attorney for Mr. Ralph Tischer was read by the Clerk asking the City Council to grant an option on the lot surrounding the Equitable Life Insurance Co. Bldg on Legislative St. and the Plaza.
Mr. Tischer appeared before Council and explained the purpose for which this lot would be used.
After some discussion, the City Council appointed the Mayor J. W. Woodford, the City Solicitor Melvin Hopkins, and the City Manager Gilbert L. Wilcox to investigate this matter and report at the next meeting of the Council.
COMMITTEE FOR HOLDING ELECTION
The following hold-over members of the City Council were appointed by the Mayor as a Committee for holding the annual City Election to be held in the City Hall on January 15 between the hours of 1:00 and 4:00 P.M.: Messrs. Keith, Vane and Alderman W. D. Burton.
