REGULAR MEETING
April 12th, 1943
The Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Dover was held on the 12th day of April, 1943. The Meeting was called to order by Vice-Mayor LeFevre at 7:30 P. M., and on roll call the following members answered “PRESENT”: Messrs. Downes, Millman, Keith, Hartnett, Burton, Hinkle and Vane.
MINUTES
Upon motion of Messrs. Burton and Millman, the reading of the Minutes of the last Regular Meeting was dispensed with.
CITY MANAGER’S REPORT
The City Manager’s report for the month of March was read by the Clerk and accepted upon motion of Messrs. Hinkle and Keith.
FINANCIAL REPORT
The financial report for the month of March was read by the Clerk and accepted upon motion of Messrs. Hinkle and Keith.
ALDERMAN’S REPORT
The Alderman’s report for the month of march was read by the Clerk and accepted upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Burton. A check amounting to $251.60 was turned over to the City Manager with the report of 15 arrests.
TAX RATE
Upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Burton, the tax rate for the City of Dover for the year 1943 was set at 70¢ per $100.00 valuation.
TAX APPEALS
The following appeal was turned over to the City Council by the Tax Appeal Board which sat in the City Hall to receive appeals between the hours of 1 and 4 P. M. on Monday, the 12th of April:
Richardson & Robbins Company asked for a reduction on the assessment of their factory on King Street from $160,000.00 to $150,000.00.
Upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Hinkle, Council voted to adjust this assessment to $150,000.00
APPROPRIATIONS
Upon motion of Messrs. Burton and Vane, the Council voted to appropriate $100.00 per month to the Dover School for the months of March, April and May for the purpose ofhelping defray expenses caused by community meetings in the school building during evening hours.
Upon motion of Messrs. Burton and Hinkle, the Council instructed the City Clerk to draw an order on the treasury for $150.00 for appropriation to the American Red Cross.
Upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Millman, the City Clerk was instructed to send flowers to the funeral of Mr. Robert D. Simmons, who was president of the Robbins Hose Company for several years.
NOTICE
The City Solicitor was instructed to send a notice to the owner of the lot, located on Lakewood Place belonging to Mrs. G. Davis Turner, to clean the building materials and refuse off the lost within one week from the date of the notice; otherwise, action would be started before the Alderman of the City.
