REGULAR MEETING

                                                                                                                        August 10th, 1942

            The Regular Meeting of the Council of the City of Dover was held on the 10th day of August, 1942. The Meeting was called to order at 7:30 P. M. with Mayor Woodford presiding, and on roll call the following members answered “Present”: Messrs. Downes, LeFevre, Keith, Hartnett, Burton, Vane and Hinkle.

MINUTES

            Upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Hartnett, the reading of the Minutes of the last Regular Meeting was dispensed with.

CITY MANAGER’S REPORT

            The City Manager’s report for the month of July was read by the Clerk and accepted upon motion of Messrs. Burton and Downes. 

            Upon motion of Messrs. LeFevre and Downes, the report of the auditor for the fiscal year ending June 30th, 1942, was accepted by Council and ordered filed. The City Clerk was instructed to have this report published and 100 copies printed for public distribution.

            The accident which caused the death of one of our lien employees, George Hurd, was discussed by Council, andupon motion of Messrs. Downes and Keith, they voted that in-as-much as Mr. Hurd left ten children in addition to his widow, the City should pay the full salary for the month of Auguts, and $20.00 per week until January first, 1943. In addition to this the City should continue the present employees rate of electric which is half rate, until January first, 1943, contingent upon a proper release signed by the widow, this release to be prepared by the City Solicitor.

FINANCIAL REPORT

            The financial report for the month of July was read by the Clerk and accepted upon motion of Messrs. Hinkle and Keith.

ALDERMAN’S REPORT

            The Alderman’s report for the month of July was read by the Clerk and accepted upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Downes. A check amounting to $289.00 was turned over to the City manager with the report of 17 arrests.

POLICE REPORT

            The report of the Chief of Police was read by the Clerk and approved upon motion of Messrs. Burton and Hinkle.

BOARD OF HEALTH REPORT

            The semi-annual report of the executive officer of the City Board of Health was read by the Clerk and accepted upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Hinkle.

LETTERS

            A letter from the Robbins Hose Company was read by the Clerk which expressed their appreciation for the Council assuming the obligation at the Farmers Bank for the balance due on the aerial ladder truck.

            A letter from E. V. Ingram, representing the Delaware Auto Sales Taxi, was read by the Clerk asking permission to use a two-car space on Loockerman Street in front of Bryan & Hopkins Drug Store for a taxi stand. After some discussion, upon motion of Messrs. LeFevre and Downes, the matter of a selection for a taxi stand was turned over to the Mayro and a committee of Councilman which he should select.

ADJOURNMENT

            Council adjourned at 9:15 P. M.
