SPECIAL MEETING
April 20th, 1942
A Special Meeting of the City Council of the City of Dover was held on the 20th day of April, 1942. The Meeting was called to order at 7:30 P. M. with Mayor Woodford presiding, and on roll call the following members answered present: Messrs. Hinkle, Vane, Keith, Burton, Millman, Hartnett and LeFevre.
PURPOSE OF MEETING
The purpose of this Meeting was to discuss the purchase of an ambulance for the City of Dover and vicinity.
The following members of the Special Citizens Committee spoke on behalf of the organizations they represented:
Mr. H. H. Hanson, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kent General Hospital;
Mr. A. B. Magee, Jr., Secretary of the Senior Chamber of Commerce, who stated this organization would donate $200 to be used for the housing of this ambulance;
Mrs. Luff, Superintendent of the Hospital Nurses Staff;
Mr. Harry K. Heite, representing the Rotary Club, stated their donation would be $200;
Mr. Daniel Enterline, representing the Kiwanis Club, donating $200;
Mr. A. A. Davis, president of Walter L. Fox Post of the American Legion, $100;
Mr. Henry J. Ridgely, Jr., Secretary of the Junior Chamber of Commerce;
Mrs. R. L. Hammond, representing the Soroptimist Club;
Mrs. Daniel Finnegan, representing the American legion Auxiliary;
Mr. R. D. Simmons, representing the Robbins Hose Company and donating $200.
Upon motion of Messrs. LeFevre and Keith, Mayor Woodford and city Manager Shank were authorized to enter into an agreement with the Chairman of the different committees to purchase an ambulance, after proper arrangements were made for the housing and operating of the said ambulance, contingent upon the contribution made by the hospital and other organizations, it being understood that any deficit in operation of said ambulance should be taken care of by the City of Dover.
APPLICATION FOR PRINTING SHOP
Upon motion of Messrs. Burton and Hinkle, Mr. W. E. Kicline was authorized to operate a printing shop in his garage located on the alley between South State and South Bradford Streets, it being understood that no additional buildings be erected for this purpose.
