Job Description:

The Crew Leader position primarily leads a work crew in the performance of assigned projects or tasks while also positively bridging the gap between the supervisor and crews. This position is responsible for assigned personnel, projects/tasks of responsibility, equipment, and related paperwork. This position is a working Crew Leader position requiring full participation with all assigned tasks and/or duties. The position works under general supervision independently developing work methods and sequences.
Job Responsibilities
· Monitors and reviews work assignments and determines resources required to complete tasks, such as number of workers, materials, tools, or equipment.
· Oversees and participates in completion of work assignments such as laying blacktop, placing erosion control materials, or other specialized tasks, ensuring compliance with departmental safety requirements, policy, and procedures.
· Ensures optimal functioning of earth moving equipment and tools of responsibility, such as vacuum equipment, dump trucks, snowplows, backhoes, front-end loaders; performs operator maintenance as required.
· Maintains logs, forms, records, time sheets, and other work-related information for area of responsibility; prepares routine reports as required.
· Interacts with City customers and the public to provide information or resolve problems or complaints relating to assigned area.
· Attends and conducts crew meetings to disperse/exchange information.
Drives and controls on/off-road equipment to haul supplies to and from the work site. This may include public highway systems.
Manipulates equipment with integrated mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic systems/controls by coding computers and or adjusting levers, gears, valves, switches and related controls.
Operates motor equipment and hand tools to dig, ditch, slope, strip, grade, backfill, mow, and clear and excavate.
Loads and unloads rock, debris, earth, trees and materials, such as abrasives, de-icing chemicals/hazardous material using hands, loaders, trucks, hand-truck, forklift, dolly-lift and hoist.
Operates hand tools such as jackhammers, mechanical tampers, power saws, air compressors, hydraulic drivers, and similar equipment to make general repairs of roads, grounds, and/or structures.
Performs and directs the installation of concrete forms.
Responds to environmental/highway emergency situations to control snow, storm water, hazardous debris, oil spills, etc. on roads, grounds and related areas.
Uses traffic control techniques to control high/low speed vehicular traffic movements.
Performs preventive maintenance, operational checks, pre, and post walk around inspections, and makes minor repairs/adjustments of assigned equipment; reports damage and /or required maintenance.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Requires high school diploma or GED, and specialized vocational training.
Requires valid Delaware Commercial Driver’s License w/a valid medical examiners certificate and tanker endorsement.
Required to maintain flagger certification.
Minimum three years of leadership, mentoring, coaching and construction.
Minimum three years of experience in operating self-propelled mobile equipment with wheeled or crawler type traction work to fine specifications on all types of terrain.
