On February 4, 2026, the City of Dover was notified that the Delaware Department of Justice has declined to pursue the criminal complaint filed against Police Chief Thomas A. Johnson, Jr. and considers the matter to be closed.

 

   The City has remained confident in the Chief's conduct and leadership throughout this process and appreciates the Attorney General's independent determination.  We will continue focusing on the work that matters most: serving the people of Dover with professionalism and integrity.  There has been no disruption in the work of the Dover Police Department during this review and the Chief looks forward to working with the membership to continue to keep the community safe and secure.
